My nursing career started in 2003 where I worked night shift as a staff nurse. Within 1 year, I transferred to day shift and continued work as a staff nurse. I worked as a staff nurse for 11 years and moved into a supervisor position. During this time I managed schedules as well as working as a discharge nurse on a progressive care unit. I worked as a supervisor for 7 years. This unit specialized in post surgical care of CABG, Valve, and Thoracic Surgery patients. Care included chest tube management, epidural management, PCA management, and temporary pacemaker as well. The unit also managed most dysrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and bradycardia. IV medications used to treat these cardiac rhythms were managed on this unit as well.
5 years ago I moved into the manager role on 4IC. This unit is also a progressive care unit treating active chest pain, all dysrhythmias, managing patients sent for ablations, heart catherizations, sheath management, and monitoring of cardiac drips used to manage these conditions as well. I was hired into the position while simultaneously working on my BSN.
