As a Community Support Associate, I worked with parents who had lost their children to DCBS for neglect or abuse. I taught parenting classes going from birth to teenage years. Preparing the parents for the return of their children.
I also worked at several elementary schools, tutoring individuals and small groups. My specialty was reading, using the Susan Barton curriculum for children with dyslexia.
Weekly after school reading groups was part of my teaching. During these classes, I selected and assembled small groups of children who were needing extra practice reading. We, as a group, would read an AR book, discuss it, then have a hands on activity to go alone with the story.
During the summer months I worked with several students
encouraging teamwork and peer collaboration through various fun activities.
