Regional Trade Facilitator

The Trade Program assisted workers and employers affected by foreign trade, which resulted in permanent job loss and potential closure of the business.

  • As the Regional Trade Facilitator, communication with the Central Office Trade Coordinators, provided the notice of the Trade Petition. Once the notification was received, contact was made with the affected employer to meet and assess their situation. Results of this meeting provided the type of work affected, number of affected workers, full time or part time, wages, positions, direct hires or contractual hires through job agencies, names and contact information for the affected workers.
  • A meeting was scheduled with the Career Center Trade Coordinator and Career Center Partners. The gather information was provided, and the Trade Orientation was scheduled for the affected workers. The invitation was also provided to the employer, local and state elected officials.
  • During the Trade Program Orientation, information was provided about the benefits that would be received, if eligible. This included the goal of the program was returning to suitable full time work, and the path to get there. Career Center Partners provided and overview of their services. Required program registration was given, completed and returned by the workers. Additional information was obtained, i.e. personal identification, proof of income, and resume, if available. A first counseling session was scheduled to meet with the Career Center Trade Coordinator. Additional information was provided about their continued responsibilities to continue the program.
  • As the facilitator, I provided any assistance needed to the local Career Center Trade Coordinator. This included sharing best practices and lessons learned from other coordinators and facilitators statewide.
  • Coordinated partner meetings, to collaborate about the next steps for individual clients, to address any concerns or needs, and provided any resources needed to provide a smoother operation and positive outcome for our clients.
  • I conducted monthly audits on client case files to determine if timelines are being met, the required information was being provided as required by Federal and State guidelines. Feedback was provided and noted to determine if follow up support was needed.
  • I reviewed and rendered decisions under the Trade Program guidelines, training request(s). This included but not limited to: cost of training, where, why (is the skill not competitive in current job market, or does it need to be enhanced), and results of previous job searches and/or interviews.
  • Quarterly audits were conducted to follow up on client status, i.e., completed program and closed case file, pending completion, or unavailable.
  • Participated on the Northern Kentucky Area Development District Wordforce Development Board as a committee member, and proxy Board Member. Updating employers of Trade affected jobs and the skill sets of the affected workers. When available, resumes of workers were provided when needed.
  • Led cross-functional partners in brainstorming sessions, and continued creative problem-solving.
  • Attended Career Center events, i.e. job fairs, monthly meetings, committee meetings, organizational meetings.
