I’m a nursing student at Owensboro Community & Technical College with experience as a Patient Care Technician in a hospital and as a Certified Nursing Assistant in rehab/long-term care. These roles have helped me grow, learn, stay calm under pressure, and be someone my team and patients can rely on. I’m eager to keep learning, expand my healthcare skills, and provide the best possible patient care.
I work night shifts helping residents with hygiene, comfort, mobility, and safety, making sure they feel respected and at home. I focus on promoting independence when it’s safe, protecting their dignity, and treating their space as their own. I watch for any changes in their condition and report them to the nursing staff to keep residents safe and supported. Over time, I’ve grown connections with my residents, learning to provide kind, compassionate care, and understanding that many live with chronic illnesses or loneliness. This role has taught me to be attentive, dependable, and thoughtful in providing care that truly matters.
I worked in a busy hospital observation unit caring for a variety of patients, sometimes managing up to 14 at a time. I took vitals, blood sugars, assisted with transfers & bathroom needs, helped with bathing, grooming, feeding, and preparing patients for procedures. I provided hands-on care, including foley and hygiene support, while staying calm under pressure and keeping patients safe and comfortable. This role taught me to be adaptable, dependable, and compassionate, even in fast-paced, challenging situations.
I worked in a fast-paced restaurant where I greeted and seated guests, cleaned tables and floors, handled in-person and phone orders, packed to-go meals, and made sure every order was correct and presented well. I learned to excel across multiple roles, staying calm under pressure, paying attention to details, communicating clearly, and working closely with my team.
I helped patients by answering calls, assisting with medication refills, explaining any changes in their prescriptions, and scheduling or rescheduling appointments. I coordinated diagnostic tests, uploaded results into charts, and managed paperwork as needed. I also communicated patient questions and concerns directly with the APRN to ensure they received timely guidance. Working closely with patients and the medical team taught me to stay organized, communicate clearly, and provide care with patience and compassion.
