"It's never to late to become who you are meant to be, and "It's not how you start, but how you finish that matters" are both adages that describes me. Through life experiences and choices, I have dealt with some tough consequences and life lessons. The last of which has led me to pursue a career in social work.
While serving time in Fulton County Jail I became a mentor over 30 men in the SAP program. I went on to become senior mentor ,working directly with the director relaying information. I made sure everyone's needs were met when they completed their phases, and in charge of consequences given out. I was also in charge of scheduling classes and gathering materials.
I went on from there to become one of only two men to become an elder in the history of that SAP program. I had many of the same duties, but instead of being over 30 men I was in charge of 200 which encompassed the entire program. Choosing mentors and leading peer lead classes also became part of my duties.
Serving in this position placed me outside of my comfort zone, but also taught me so many things. It also helped lead me in the direction of social work and more explicitly drug and alcohol counseling. For the past four years I have been working full time and pursuing my degree . I want a rewarding career that will allow me to give back. My past has brought me to this point and I am excited to see what the future holds in working with others.
