In the role of a mental health technician, I perform scheduled patient safety checks and documented results to establish patients' well-being, provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for patients experiencing emotional distress or exhibiting aggressive behaviors, apply de-escalation and limit-setting techniques to promote patient cooperation, observe patient behaviors and mental status and notify RN of unusual or potentially dangerous occurrences, as well as helping to create and execute group therapy activities.
At ULH Peace Hospital, I worked directly with children experiencing developmental disabilities and psychiatric distress utilizing trauma-informed care to aid in the formation and implementation of behavioral and mental health-based treatment plans. I coached mental health technicians in effective, individualized protocols to ensure each individual is empowered to reach their full potential and are provided essential components necessary to improve their current and future experiences impacted by mental health disorders.
Through my internship at Seven Counties Services, I gained knowledge and experience to communicate advice to others, create and communicate plans effectively, and research/collaborate with colleagues in a positive way to be successful as a social work practitioner.
My duties as a medical assistant included welcoming patients (rooming, loading, performing appropriate triage), updating and filing patient medical records, scheduling appointments, preparing patients for examination, assisting in routine appointments and procedures, removing sutures, changing dressings, administering injections, and more. I expanded on these duties through providing quality training to aid in the adapting and learning for new hires, all while maintaining a status of reliability and proven quality of work.
