JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR INFECTION PREVENTIONIST, STAFF DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR, WOUND CARE LEAD
I have been a nurse for seventeen years and have worked in a variety of settings. I have performed as a floor nurse, case manager, infection control and preventionist, staff development coordinator, wound care nurse/lead, and have been a member of management and nursing administration. The roles most performed are infection control/preventionist, staff development coordinator, and wound care lead. The last year and a half have been dedicated to furthering my education and spending time with family members through difficult and unexpected changes.
As infection preventionist I was responsible for the development and implementation of an infection control program for the facility to include educating staff and clients, development of policy and procedures to adhere to CDC and CMS guidelines, monitoring adherence to infection control policies and procedures, antibiotic stewardship, collection of data and contact tracing for emerging infections and MDRO’s within the facility, maintain and monitor staff and client vaccination status and record per CDC regulations and guidelines. Ensured adherence to state and federal guidelines and requirements for infections within the facility and per agency guidelines, and reporting of occurrences of infectious conditions and MDRO emergence to governing bodies.
As staff development coordinator I was responsible for training and records maintenance of training completed and required training by staff as outlined by CMS guidelines and agency policy. This included monitoring of staff skills performance during care provided with additional monitoring of governing body sites and training for updated materials and mandatory training requirements. Educated staff on continued education requirements as needed as well as annual learning requirements and training for licensure.
As wound care lead, I was responsible for performing wound care and dressing changes as prescribed for those residing within the facility having open areas to skin. Assessment of skin was performed by me upon admission to facility with accurate documentation of wound presence, stage, location, and characteristics completed. Wound care orders and treatments were verified with admitting provider with treatments performed as ordered and monitoring of wound status completed with each dressing change. Weekly wound measurements were completed and documented with appropriate reports generated displaying data for wound presence, deterioration, or improvement of condition. Collaboration was completed weekly with all administrative staff and treating providers to ensure proper treatments were in place as specified by the wound and resident/client condition. Ordering supplies for floor staff completing wound care was completed weekly in this role as well.
