Work History

Graduate Laboratory Instructor

Murray State University
01.2025 - Current

Teach the biology 100 lab to non-biology majors. I adjust the provided presentations, for students to visualize the concepts given in the laboratory manual. I aim to bring in outside examples unrelated to biology to then relate them back into biological concepts.

Insect Animal Caretaker

Dr. Oliver Beckers Lab
08.2022 - Current
  • Katydid, Neoconocephalus triops: A katydid species which exhibits phenotypic plasticity in calls between winter and summer populations.
  • I recorded ambient temperatures, refresh food and gel water, plant and replace grass in enclosure, and sort through grass for eggs.
  • Cricket, Gryllus rubens: The southern field cricket which has phenotypic plasticity between long and short wing fight or flight aggression.
  • Record ambient temperatures, refresh food and water, pair individuals for mating, check and prepare eggs, and record when individuals become adults.

Animal Care and Use Committee Room Technician (IACUC)

Murray State University
01.2023 - 01.2025
  • Managed the IACUC room under Dr. Andrea Darracq
  • I ensured all functions are working properly and no alarms are sounding.
  • I checked the room daily and notify people if anything is not functionally properly, this includes temperature monitoring, light checks, alarm functions, and cleaning.

Advisor and Specialist

Marshalls
05.2022 - 02.2024
  • Managed the beauty department at Marshalls which included processing all shoes, purses, jewelry, and beauty products.
  • I created displays for presentations and dilated task for my associates.
  • I gave recommendations and assisted customers with any of their beauty product needs.
  • Awarded multiple promotions and the influential employee recognition award called 'Associate of the Quarter'.

Poster presentation: The effects of fly parasitism on the calling activity of two katydid host

Research Experience

  • Graduate Research, Dr. Oliver Beckers, 05/01/24, 11/01/24, Field collected gravid female parasitoid flies, Ormia lineifrons, and Neoconocephalus katydid species. I artificially parasitized the katydids and analyzed their temporal call structure to determine if there is a change in calling activity for two Neoconocephalus species: N. velox and N. retusus. This project is ongoing.
  • Undergraduate Research, Dr. Oliver Beckers, 08/01/22, 05/01/24, Work with the southern field cricket, Gryllus rubens, collected individuals from Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Fall 2024 and Spring 2024. Completed dissection and measured mandibles and femurs to determine if there is phenotypic plasticity between long wing and short wing crickets. I investigated cricket muscle histolysis, mandible and femur measurements. Male G. rubens fight each other until one male dominates the other. I tested if mandibles are used as weapons in these fights and if their size differed between winner and loser males.
  • Student Research Assistant, Louisville Green Heart Project, Dr. Andrea Darracq, Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Identified and picked invertebrates in debris from urban land sample bags such as arthropods and gastropods. The focus of this part of the Green Heart project is on the invertebrate community in urban landscaping. I evaluated the diversity of arthropods in urban areas to contribute data supporting biodiversity improvements in our ecosystem.
