Kentucky Peer Support Specialist
I know that self-care is very important for my recovery, and that I always have to remember this along with where I came from. I also have to share the "lived experience" with my clients, which also helps me because it reminds me of where I use to be, and NEVER want to be again. I want to help my clients with everything in me, in any way, shape, or form so that they know they always have some kind of support. They always need to feel that from somewhere, and I will always be that person for them...that is my job. This is also apart of my self-care, is knowing that I am doing my job to the fullest and giving it all I have got. I want to freely give to someone what was so freely given to me, and that was my LIFE again.
Yoga is a huge part of my self care because it helps me to re-center and tune the thoughts out when things become stressful at work, or at home, or I just want to exercise. I love Yoga because it has taught me so much about myself and my needs as an individual. There is no better feeling than being in tune with your own body, mind, spirit, and soul.
Being with my children is another aspect of my self-care because there was a time I did not get to see my children, and that kind of pain is crippling to the body. Just knowing that I always will have them, and I will do my best to be the best mom in the world means everything to me. Yes, I was very selfish, and more about myself than my kids in my active addiction days, but now I would do anything in the world for my two boys, and know the true meaning of unconditional love. With what I have put both of my children through, and they still love me, I will never understand but forever grateful for it and my life today.
