  • This job is the black liquor evaporator and oxidation system. The purpose of this job is to evaporate water out of weak liquor to a targeting solid content. This is done by steam flow an liquor flow through a series of black liquor effects. It also creates condensate. I must maintain an adequate liquor solid, direct condensate to the proper location an balance our liquor inventory. I also assist the Control Room Operator in Powerhouse Operations (when needed).
  • Also Operating the 3 Demenirizlation Plants. With these units we take Well water or Mill water an run them through a cation unit an a anion unit. These units take the organics out of the water to make boiler feed water for the boilers. I target an adequate caustic an water dilution for the anion regenerations and a acid to water dilution for the cation units.
  • It is my job to oversee the feed water system in the department. The steam reducing stations 600-50 # and the 600-150#. Making sure that we keep right right pressure an temperature for each station.

  • This job is a lime Kiln and Recausticizing area, I take diluted down chemicals, add other chemicals together to make the stronger base chemical for breaking down the wood chips to make pulp for the paper making process. also the lime kiln uses high temperature heat and a slow rolling kiln to make good quality lime to help with the reaction of the chemicals stronger.
  • The chemicals I use here are NASH, sodium hydrosulfide, lime calcium hydroxide, caustic sodium hydroxide. when all this is mixed then it goes through several purifying tanks it becomes pure white liquor. this is a continuous process that must be done accurate and efficiently. Several tests, charting, DCS operations and calculations have to done continuously to make sure the quality is in the operating limits.

  • This job is a chemical recovery boiler. My duties here are maintaining the recovery of black liquor in the process of burning it at a high temperature. Building liquor solids, keeping air flows, checking boilers for leaks. Steam is a biproduct of this boiler. It works in correspondence to the bark boiler in my past job classification.
  • This job requires the operation of flow paths, liquor ignition, DCS operations and maintaining boilers operations. Logging data into DCS operations an following normal SOP an EOP operations.

Leadership Experience

I have been a part of Ballard County rescue since I was 18 years old. Here I have trained several people on how to save someone's life in times of danger. I always try and have a calm and collective mind so that I understand how others learn and how to teach them. Currently at Phoenix Paper I'm a trainer on jobs under me. Once a new hire comes in it is my duty to train them and teach them everything I know so they can perform their job successfully. There are times that I do not know everything, and I always go above and beyond to find the answer so that I can help my coworkers.

Communication Skills

This to me is one of the most important aspects to a job. You must be able to communicate properly so that nobody gets hurt and to make sure the job gets done correctly. I've learned over the years to be clear as possible and that everyone understands things differently. So, I strive to do my best in making sure everyone knows what is going on and that nobody gets hurt.
